My husband and I are originally from Washington where we met at college, got married and moved to the lovely beaches of Florida a few years later.  We are both water sport fanatics and love living by the ocean.  Our comfortable home is a stones throw from the beach, has 5 bedrooms and a lovely garden where we have many BBQ’s.  You will have a private room with shower and separate entrance.

We have two boys, aged 11 and 8, both adopted from Russia and a joy to be around.  Our eleven year old loves to play with his friends, play lacrosse and soccer, surf, watch movies and eat pizza.  Our eight year old is learning to surf now, so if you are interested, you could learn how to surf with him!  He is a very active and loving boy and enjoys the outdoors. The kids love having friends over for ‘beach parties’.

My husband works in real estate and I love being a mom.  I do not work, but I am very busy doing volunteer projects in our town and being with my children.

We are attracted to the Au Pair in America program because we would like to give our children the opportunity to be exposed to different cultures as well as receive the love, personal attention and energy of a person who is like one of the family.  It is very important to us to create a loving and stimulating environment for them so they can grow up being healthy, happy, intelligent and well-adjusted.

Our au pair would take the children to school and pick them up, take them to after school activities, help with their homework and play. We definitely need a strong swimmer as the boys are in the water every chance they get.  You will have a lot of free time over the weekend since we try to spend most weekend together as a family.  You are more than welcome to join us in our family activities, since you will be part of our family!

Au PairVintern 2010

We have been in the Au Pair in America program for three years now and searching for our next au pair.  We have been very blessed with our previous au pairs.  We continue to be very interested in bringing an au pair into our home primarily, of course, for the help she can bring to our busy family, but also for the opportunity to share different life experiences and perspectives with us and our children.  We are an outgoing and happy couple and we think our home is a comfortable environment for someone interested in experiencing life in America.  In return we would expect that our au pair would be respectful of our values and our property and will work with us in creating an open, honest and comfortable relationship.

The two of us are both bankers and in our mid forties. We have three wonderful girls aged 4 , 7 and 9.  They all have very different personalities and very different schedules, hence the reason for an au pair.  Our 4 year old goes to school 3 days a week and would stay with you for the other two days.  While she is at school, you will have free time.  The University is just minutes away and there are also several Community Colleges in the area.  The Colleges in the area attract many opportunities for cultural events (visiting musicians, art displays etc).  In short, there is plenty to do and see here in terms of education and cultural experiences.

The other two girls go to the same private school which they travel to by bus.  The famous yellow school bus stops outside our house, which is very convenient.  They are both very sporty and take part in ballet, tap, soccer, swimming, baseball and violin.  They take  their sporting gear or instruments with them in the morning.  It is important that you check that they have the correct gear with them.  They usually get home around 4pm….and then it’s time for homework.  We enjoy having meals together and is a nice social activity that we can all take part in and share our stories of the day, so you would join us for meals if you are happy to do so.

Lastly, we would help and encourage our au pair to get to know America and Seattle.  There are many au pairs that live in our area, so meeting new friends should not be a problem.

My wife and I have been happily married for 12 years now.  I work as a journalist for a local newspaper and my wife has a career in fashion.  We love to travel, enjoy outdoor sports activities and try to have fun regardless of what we’re doing.  We love to experience new things and places and would describe ourselves as adventurous.  We have travelled to many African countries, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Thailand, England and the list goes on!   We are planning on doing a lot more travelling and understand some of the feelings that au pair go through when they first arrive in the US – a  new country with a completely different culture.

Our newest and the most important addition to our family is our lovely son.  He will be celebrating his 1st birthday in November.  He is a very active and energetic boy who loves to explore the world – not unlike his parents!

Our home is in a row of two-story limestone historic townhouses in downtown Bethesda.  You will have your own comfortable bedroom with on suite bathroom on the top story of our house (there are great views over the city from there).  You will have full access to the family car to use during your free time or to go to the local college.

We spend summer evenings sitting on our stoop, socialising with neighbours or having a barbeque in the back garden.  We are a very social couple and enjoy having friends over, so we may need you to work on a Friday or Saturday evening.

A typical day for you would start at 8:00am and end around 5:00pm.  We try and make every weekend family time and it will be great if you could join us, but that will be up to you.  We know that you will have lots that you would like to do and explore while you are in our amazing country.

Our ideal au pair will love our child as if her own, become our friend and a member of our family and will hopefully share a laugh and some fun times with us as a family.

We are excited about bringing another au pair into our home to assist with the children and to become part of our family.
I work in the travel industry and my husband for an Information Technology company. My job is full time and I travel a lot. My husband’s office is about 25 minutes from home.  Our three boys aged 6, 8 and 10 are pupils at the local school just minutes from our house. They are wonderful active children and enjoy arts and crafts, reading, sports and playing with friends.

We live in a modest, but beautiful home that sits on a quarter acre of property.  We have lots of neighbors and very close to our main town center where you’ll find shops, salons, libraries, restaurants and cafes.

When at home with the kids, you will mostly find yourself supervising homework for one to two hours in the afternoon, arranging play dates with other au pairs in the area or helping them with activities in and around the house.  You will pick them up from school with the car, or the boys may decide to cycle to school, which means that you will cycle with them and collect them with your bike in the afternoon.  They take the bus during the winter months.  When they get home, you will more than likely prepare a healthy snack, help unpack their backpacks, read the notes and homework that is brought home and make sure they do their work, with your help, if needed.  After homework is done there are many other activities like soccer, baseball, swimming etc that they take part in.  You would drive them back and forth to their activities.

You will have a private bedroom with a queen size bed.  The room has a flat-screen TV with cable and an on-suite bathroom.  We don’t expect anyone to share a bathroom with three boys!

Chicago is a great city to live in with many places to see and visit.  There are also a large group of au pairs in our area. Our former au pairs have found this to be a great support network and great friendships are made through the regular get togethers that are arranged for them.

If you would like to live in a great city, care for three energetic boys and join our family, then you may be the au pair for us!

Au PairHösten/Vintern 2010
#11012355Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.

We have been a happy host family to various au pairs and nannies since the day our son, who is now 12, was born. We also have a lovely 10 year old daughter.  Both children have had wonderful relationships with our au pairs and see them more as their big sister than their nanny.

My husband, 48, works from the office at home and enjoys waking the children in the morning and being around when they get back from school.  I am 42 and work in the local area at an advertising company.  I am usually the first one to leave the house in the morning due to my long hours of work.  I head to work even before the children wake up!  Both children have very sweet characters.  They love hugs and have very good manners.  We are perhaps a little more strict than average with the children, but we believe it is important for them to be polite and know how to behave around other people.

Our home is in a upper middle class section of a lovely suburb in Pittsburg, Pensilviania.  While we live in a newer home, we are down to earth people.  We love spending time together as a family and we enjoy the outdoors. We have a summer cabin where we enjoy spending weekend and our vacation time in the summer.  There is a lot to do – swimming, hiking, tennis and of course, hanging out as a family.

Your schedule will be pretty set to ensure that both my husband and I keep to our work schedules and to ensure the children get to their various after school activities on time.  You will drive the children to school in the morning – they take the bus home in the afternoon.  They are very good when it comes to homework time and love playing sports, so getting their homework done quickly is a priority for them, because it means there is more time to be active.  You will start the day by preparing breakfast for the kids around 7:30 as they need to head to school at 8:00.  During the time they are at school, you will help out with some house hold chores eg doing the kids laundry and making sure the play area is tidy.  They make their own beds and tidy their own rooms.  Meals for the kids are pretty easy as they enjoy any type of food.

The local area has great shops, galleries, museums and universities / colleges.  There is a college two roads up from our house.  We use the college tennis courts, gym and swimming pool.  The kids love cycling on the grounds.  You will also be able to use the facilities as we have an annual family membership.  It’s also a great way for you to meet friends.

You will find that we are a loving family and we believe that good communication is the basis to a good relationship.  We love to laugh and play and expect our au pair to help us create a fun and loving environment for us all to live in.  Our au pairs are usually organized and proactive and someone who is able to set limits while allowing the children to learn from their mistakes.

My husband, Christopher, and I were both born in Washington, DC. We have been married 10 years and have a son, Matt, who is 7 years old and a daughter, Melissa, who is 6 years old. We both have extended family in the Washington area and we live directly across the street from my parents. We enjoy spending time with our family and friends. I am an anesthesiologist and Christopher is a high school math teacher. During the summer months (end of June through the end of August) Christopher is out of school. During the summer the au pair would help Christopher with taking the children to camp and picking them up.
We need our au pair in the mornings before school and afternoons/evenings after school.

We need the au pair to wake Matt and Melissa up at 7:30 AM, help them get dressed, have breakfast, and drive them to school. The school is 10 minutes from our house and they get dropped off between 8:30 and 8:40 AM. We also need the au pair to pick Matt and Melissa up from school at 3:15 PM and bring them home or take them to their after school activity. Melissa takes piano lessons in our neighborhood and Matt is on a gymnastics team and takes Tai Kwan Do. On days when I do not work I enjoy picking, the children up from school and going to there after school activities.

I was born and raised in Washington, DC, but I traveled a lot as a child through Europe and as a young adult I spent time in Kenya and South Africa. Christopher and I have traveled with our children in the United States, Belize, and Costa Rica.

In 2003 Christopher and I moved into our current home. We have extensively remodeled since moving. Our au pair would have the attic as their private living space. The attic is carpeted and is 10 feet by 15 feet. There are two closets and two windows. The au pair would share a newly renovated full bathroom with Melissa.

Christopher and I do our best to set a good example for Matt and Melissa and we expect our au pair to do the same. There is no smoking in our home and we teach our children to be respectful and kind to others and expect the same in return.

The neighborhood that we live in is in the northern tip of Washington, DC just a few blocks from Maryland. We are walking distance to the Metro train and major bus routs. We are near movie theaters, shopping, restaurants, museums, monuments, and sporting arenas. Our community is very culturally diverse and there are many families with school-aged children.
During the summer we spend several weekends at our family beach house in Bethany Beach Delaware. The house sleeps ten and is walking distance to the beach. Bethany is a 2 1/2 hour drive from our home in Washington. DC. Our au pair would be welcome on our trips to the beach.

Au PairVintern 2010
#100724Pefham Manor, New York.

We are a family of three, living quietly in a single-family residence in Pelham, New York. I am 49 years old, my wife is 47, and our son, David, is 8. We celebrate our birthdays in November and December. David is in fourth grade.

We value education highly. My wife and I both earned doctoral degrees in biochemistry, and then came to New York to pursue post-doctoral training. My wife subsequently entered the field of Intellectual Property law and earned her Jurist Doctor (law) degree.

When not working, we pursue our individual and common interests. I like to cook and garden. My wife reads avidly and participates in local book clubs. During the school year, our son, David engages in several after-school activities. These include religious education, soccer, martial arts, Cub Scouts, and music instruction. He's also happy to watch television, play Run escape, an online adventure game, and read. During the summer, David spends time in various day camp programs, sometimes music camp, and usually several nature camp venues. Family activities are mostly out-of-doors, although we are members of the New York Hall of Science, which we visit several times each year. We are also members of the New York Botanical Garden, which we visit frequently throughout the year.

In a typical day, David has a few minutes for diversions after he wakes up (around 7 AM), and then he joins me for breakfast. After that, he gets ready to leave the house, and my wife or I walk with him to school, which begins at 8:20 AM. He attends a small neighborhood school that includes grades K-5. We seek an au pair who will join us in helping our son develop good work habits and reach his potential. We try to instill in him the idea that one should fulfill obligations before desires. On an everyday basis, that amounts to homework before screen time (computer and video games and television). Qualities we deem important for an au pair are to be even-tempered and conscientious. For interaction with our son, paying a high level of attention to his educational and life-skills needs is of primary concern. We place a premium on clear two-way communication between our au pair and us.

We have a comfortable three-story center-hall colonial, which includes a finished attic on a small but adequate lot. The house has a semi-finished full cellar with a laundry room and 9 additional rooms, including 4 bedrooms, and 3.5 baths.

Our proximity to New York City and all it's cultural and social opportunities, which obviously are too numerous to list, is particularly significant. Our house is less than 15 minutes walking from a commuter rail station, and then a 30-minute ride from Grand Central Terminal in the center of Manhattan.

#10021701Long Island, New York.

Family living at Long Island, New York searching for an Au Pair to their 2 sons, 13 years and 8 years. This area is world famous for it’s fantastic beaches, both ocean and bay. Our house is about 10 km from the actual village and is surrounded by large fields, with plenty of wildlife residents; deer, red fox rabbits and pheasants. A car is a necessity in our area, and we have one that is considered to be the au pairs. We are both lawyers. My work is flexible. Two weeks of and two weeks on. This allows our au pair to take long weekends when I am not working, in order to travel to some of the many attractions in this area of the country.

Our prior au pairs have travelled to Boston, Washington DC, Niagara Falls, Pennsylvania, and Williamsburg Virginia to name a few spots. In addition, New York city is an easy bus ride and offers a wealth of attractions (museums, Broadway, shopping etc.) At summer it is no shortage of nightlife. As for education, some of the courses that our girls have taken include: Photography, painting, Italian, line dancing, golf, karate, cooking, dried flower arranging and any manner of computer courses. Our youngest son is always looking for someone to pitch a ball for him, take a bike ride or take him to practice his roller blading, take him swimming etc.

His older brother is happiest reading a book or playing games. He also plays the piano and is in the chorus at school. The au pairs main tasks are to drive the kids to activities, prepare supper, and in the morning, before school, made breakfasts and lunches (to take to school) help our oldest boy with homework’s. Every March we go skiing out in Colorado. I am hoping to find a mature, levelheaded girl who enjoys physical activity and has some interests in cooking healthy meals. Family is looking forward to meet you.

We are a typical family  (Irving and Lynn Craff) living in a suburb of Chicago. We have two children, a girl aged 8 and a boy aged 6 years old. Our daughter is creative, dramatic and energetic. She loves nothing more than to dance, play dress-up, paint sing, read books and ride her bike. Our son is a happy boy who loves to play in the back yard with his trucks, balls and action figures. They get along well most of the time but our son is a strong character and does not let his older sister call all the shots!

We live 1 1/2 miles from the beaches of Lake Michigan and only 30 minutes drive to the city.  We are a very busy family involved in many sporting activities. We have two holiday homes, one is a cottage in Indiana and the second is a ski condo in Utah. In summertime you can enjoy many relaxing events at the lakefront including a small sailboat that we have or just relax on the beach.  In winter you can ice-skate in or outdoors and get to know the many au pairs that live in our neighbourhood!

We are looking for someone to become close to our family while caring, teaching and playing with our children. We are looking forward to meeting someone who genuinely enjoys playing with children. We want someone who is honest and out-going. We believe that children need routine, sleep, encouragement, praise, education, manners, discipline and most of all love and affection.

Au PairVintern 2010
#11071405Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Dear Au pair,
My name is Vanessa and I live in Ridgefield, Connecticut with my husband David and my three children, Cody age 9, Alexa (age 7) and Hunter (age 2 1/2). Hunter will turn three on November 1 2010. The town we live in is about an hour train ride from New York City. The train is about 20 minutes drive from our town. There are approximately 25,000 people that live in Ridgefield. It is a beautiful and safe town. Our house is situated so that the basement level is our au pairs floor with a bedroom and living room space and an entrance from the outside from the au pairs bedroom. It is private and comfortable.

Our children as I have been told by my previous au pairs are well behaved and respectful children. The girls are in school from 7:30 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, September thru June. They have summer vacation July and August. School starts end of August. My au pairs primary concern is for Hunter. He is very cute and fun to be around. I like au pairs to make friends with other au pairs and have play dates. Hunter naps far a couple hours in the afternoon.

My husband David and I work full time. At the present time, I work Monday thru Thursday, so any au pair has Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays off. You would start work at 7:00 a.m. and finish around 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. Your responsibilities would be to make sure the girls do their homework and all three children are bathed. Keep Hunter a schedule and feed him breakfast, lunch and snack. I think the biggest concern for most au pairs is to know when they are working and not working. We are pretty true to our schedules with an occasional change that you would be informed of before hand. An occasional Friday or Saturday night once in a while would be appreciated. We have a car for our au pair to transport the children to activities and for your personal use as long as it is not being abused. Example: try to share to driving with other au pairs.

We don’t travel that much but do take a few vacations during each year. Sometime to Florida (Disney World) or skiing in Vermont or Vacation on the ocean in Cape Code, Massachusetts.

All of our previous au pairs (6 in total) still keep in contact with us. We consider our au pairs as members of our family for life.

As for activities, we like to ski in the winter and swim in the summer. We live close to a lake and my parents who live in our town have a beautiful pool as well. Cody plays softball and Alexa likes gymnastics. Hunter is still too young to have any organized activity but loves to play with trucks.

David is a very good cook and makes most dinners in our home. Thank God because my cooking isn't so great.

We would welcome the opportunity to speak to you and see if we would be a match. I look forward to hearing from you.

Au PairVintern 2010
#10071401Philadelphia, PA.

We have a small, tight-knit family that includes Landon, Shelby and Carson. Landon is vice-president of business development at a marketing research company. Shelby is a marketing executive for Merck, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. Both of us have Masters Degrees and have been working for the pharmaceutical industry for ten years. Our son, Carson, will turn five this August and will begin kindergarten in the fall. He currently attends pre-school for a full day. We spend lots of time with our extended family, including Landon’s grandparents; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

We live in a large two-story home in the Philadelphia suburbs, about seven miles from the city limits. For our au pair, we have a large bedroom with a private full bathroom on the second floor of our home. It has a lovely bay window, which overlooks our wooded backyard. Opportunities for relaxing abound in our home, be it in the great room, kitchen, living room, screened in porch, flagstone patio, private backyard, or finished basement. We also have a workout room and a wooded trail close to our home, for running, cycling, or walking.

We live in a wonderful community, which is within three miles of two college campuses, and is close to both Philadelphia and the country. We live within minutes of the train station, which takes you directly into the city. In addition, both New York and Washington, DC are within 100 miles of Philadelphia and are both accessible by train. The cultural opportunities and historical attractions in these cities are among the finest in the states. More surprising are the hidden gems that abound in PA, including the Amish country in Lancaster, the rich artistic, rural, and literary history of Bucks County, and the legacy of the Duponts and Wyeths in the Brandywine River Valley. Having family in New England brings us there frequently, and provides an opportunity to go to the beach and the mountains for skiing. Of course, the Poconos Mountains are also within a short drive of our home - making for winter day trips to the slopes. We love to explore all of these treasures and welcome the opportunity to do this with our au pair!

Au PairHösten 2010
#10088404Washington D.C.

Dear Au Pair:
We are living in a house in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. Washington is the National Capitol of the US and there are a lot of free activities in the area and a large international community. There are also a lot of colleges and universities giving you a lot of choice in educational opportunities.

Our children are Brianna who is 8 years old and James who is 10 years old. Their school is few blocks from our home. They are both interested in fencing, enjoy riding their bikes, going to the swimming pool, playing games like Monopoly, Guess Who, Lords of the Ring, Risk, etc... This year they have started their own vegetable garden. They have friends in the neighborhood or close by they like to play with at our house or at their friend's house.
We have a cat, Simba and a guinea pig, Fireball.

Jasmine is originally from France. She is an attorney. Her work is 20 minutes from our house. Robert is from New York City. Robert is a social worker and works with teenagers.

We are looking for an au pair that will help the children with their homework, reading, and playing with them. The children go to school from about 8:30 in the morning to 3:10 p.m. in the afternoon. For the school year we will need the Au Pair to take care of the children from the end of school to about 6:30 p.m. at night (sometimes a little later). On some occasions we will ask you to baby-sit to complete your weekly hours. In the summer your hours will -be a little longer since summer camp may last just the mornings and you may need to work from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

You will have your own bedroom next to the family room, which will provide you an extended room in the evening with access to the TV. We have had 4 au pairs and 2 students over the summer in the past. In the past Au Pairs have had the opportunity to do activities on the weekends with our family or go out with their friends on their own. You can choose what you prefer. We go up to New York City a couple of times a year to visit Robert’s parents. You can have the opportunity to come along and see New York. You will have access to a car to go to school and to use sometimes on the weekends.
We are looking forward meeting you and having fun.

Hello my name is Sofia and my husband is Victor. We have 2 fabulous children, Lucas who is 4 and Lily is 2. We are expecting another boy in september and plan on naming him Antonio. We live in Springfield PA, which is about 20 minutes from historic downtown Philadelphia. There is lots of public transportation within walking distance and we do have a 3rd vehicle. Our home is less than 2 hours from the Jersey beaches, less than 3 hours from Washington DC and less than 3 hours from the mountains. We love the outdoors and getaways with the children. Springfield has lots of parks and a great library and close community.

Our home is on 2/3 of an acre and your room would look out towards the woods and has a hot tub right outside your room on the deck. It will have a brand new king size bed, bureau, 2 nightstands, and lots of windows. It adjoins a full bath and is on the 1 st floor. It is actually part of a 1-year-old beautiful addition and is the master bedroom in the house. We will be on the 2nd floor with the children's rooms.

There is a lot of downtime with school and naps and we may ask for light chores to be done such as putting toys away (children should assist), emptying the dishwasher, and some ironing once in awhile. We do have a housecleaning service come in every 2 weeks.

You will have access to our 3rd vehicle but we would never allow it to be out past midnight. So if you need transportation past that time, we would suggest that you have a friend drive. We prefer a non-smoker and someone who is very honest and open. We have a big extended family and you are welcome to share in any of the family activities that you would like.

We are looking to share a cultural exchange experience and believe that we are very easy to get along with and are extremely approachable. I think that you will enjoy our children, our home, and everything Philadelphia and the surrounding areas have to offer. We are looking forward to talking to you and welcoming you into our home as a one of the family.

Hi, let me introduce you to my family. I am a 37-year old single mom to a 4.5 year old son.  My husband and I divorced when our son was only 6 months old, but we remain friendly and are committed to ensuring a loving environment for our son. My ex-husband lives just 20 minutes away from us, and keeps our son Wednesday afternoons through Friday after school.

We have had 2 au pairs to date –both from South Africa. We were extremely pleased with both experiences-our au pairs were patient with our son, were hard working and flexible.

Our son’s favourite thing right now is playing with his pirate ship. He loves books, trucks, planes and other typical boy things. He really enjoys his swimming lessons and going to the park. He has many aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents and the closest relatives live about 2 hours away in Columbus, GA. I am sure our au pair will come with us on one of the trips to Columbus during the year. We live in a suburb of Atlanta about 30 minutes North of the city. We live in quite a large neighbourhood with about 2,400 acres of residential homes.

We are lucky enough to have a pool and a hot tub. Atlanta is a fantastic city with lots to offer. Our home is a very busy one-with relatives coming to stay most weekends. We look forward to our new au pair as an addition to the family and hope that you will come to love our son, as you own little nephew or brother.
